C’est dans ce contexte de (re)confinement qu’auront lieu les trois séances du mois de novembre. Celles-ci seront l’occasion pour nos collègues de présenter leurs recherches en vue de leur soutenance de thèse (respectivement le 20 novembre pour Benjamin, le 10 décembre pour Nicolas et le 11 décembre pour Nader).

La prochaine séance du séminaire des doctorant-e-s aura donc lieu le vendredi 6 novembre de 12h30 à 13h30, totalement en ligne.

À cette occasion, Benjamin Bürbaumer nous fera une présentation de ses recherches intitulée « The political economy of technical market access: The case of TTIP ».

This research analyses the international political economy of technical market access. It is built on two parts. The first part illustrates the importance and contradictions of technical market access in contemporary international trade. Technical standards and regulations indeed simultaneously represent a means to increase trade flows and a structural obstacle to liberalization. Part two concretely analyses the attempts of creating a transatlantic technical infrastructure (EU-USA) since 1990. The case of the TTIP negotiations (2013-16) illustrates that the involved states supported domestic firms by attempting to improve their access to foreign markets, instead of ensuring the reproduction of capitalism on the international scale by creating genuinely shared technical standards and regulations. Rather than advocating net gains for all, the EU and the USA promoted a selective technical infrastructure that would benefit domestic accumulation.
